Why do I see gaps in charts?

When using Cryptohopper's automated trading platform, you might occasionally notice gaps in your trading charts. This article explains what these gaps are, why they occur, and how to resolve them.

What are chart gaps?

Chart gaps occur when there's missing price data between two time periods. For example, when viewing a BTC/USDT chart on Binance with 30-minute candles, you might notice the price data jumps directly from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM, with missing candles in between.

Common causes and solutions

1. Inactive browser tab

Issue: Having a Cryptohopper tab open but not visible for an extended period can prevent price data updates.

Solution: Refresh the page using Ctrl + F5 or click the refresh icon next to the browser's URL bar.

2. Multiple Cryptohopper tabs

Issue: Having multiple Cryptohopper tabs open simultaneously (not supported).


Solution:

  • Close all additional Cryptohopper tabs

  • Keep only one tab open

  • Refresh the remaining tab using Ctrl + F5

3. Exchange maintenance

Issue: The cryptocurrency exchange might be undergoing maintenance.


Solution:

  • Check if your exchange is performing platform maintenance

  • Wait for the maintenance to complete

  • Price data updates will resume automatically

4. Other technical issues

If none of the above solutions work and you still see price action on your crypto exchange:

  • Contact Cryptohopper support for assistance

  • For new trading pairs, please note that Cryptohopper updates trading pairs periodically

TradingView: Doesn't display candles for periods without trades

Cryptohopper: Shows a dash for periods without trades, providing continuous visual representation
